Frequently Asked Questions

About the Wisconsin Focus on Energy® Program

How do I know if I qualify?

Residential Focus on Energy incentives are available to Wisconsin residents (homeowners or landlords) who own a residential building with three or fewer units. Residents must be customers of a participating utility company, and at least 50% of the home must be heated with natural gas or electricity.

Read more details on the program here>>

How much can I expect to get from the program?

The Wisconsin Focus on Energy Program rebates have two incentive tiers, which dictate a rebate incentive for select energy-efficient home improvements. Each tier is determined by your household size and income in comparison to the State Median Income (SMI).

Tier 1: Your annual or three month household income is above 80% SMI

Tier 2: Your annual or three month household income is 80% SMI or less

Read more details on Tier 1 & 2 here>>

Perhaps even more importantly, please consider the dwindling funds in this program! It wasn’t long ago that we were seeing rebate of nearly $3,000 – and that amount is now reduced to an average of $1,200. If you are considering any of the home improvements included in this program, we strongly encourage you to do so before the funds run dry!

Where do I begin?

To take advantage of the program, the first step is to have an energy audit done on your home by a Trade Ally. The audit will identify how much energy your home uses and provide recommendations to improve its energy efficiency, like improved insulation.

The cost of an energy audit is market-driven and will depend on the characteristics of your home. Assessments currently average between $200-$400. We highly recommend getting an energy assessment done by a contractor who is NOT executing the work to ensure you have a non-biased performance assessment after the work is done. (For example – if your kid checked their own homework … wouldn’t they get much better marks than if a teacher checks it? Same here.) Contact us for a list of our preferred Trade Ally auditors.

You may be eligible to receive an energy audit for a reduced fee of $50. Contact the S & E Insulation team to learn more.
